Mission Statement:

“Chinese people are often too frightened, angry, embarrassed, or proud to discuss their feelings with other people.”

This passage was stumbled upon by one of our writers when reading the book Southern Fried Rice by John Jung.  We have found that, in our collective experiences, this is an undeniable truth.  This characteristic seems to have trickled down to our generation of Chinese Americans, affecting us in such a way that we have come to tolerantly accept our vow of silence.  Cultural notions of determination, honor, and endurance have all been embedded into our hushed tendencies.

While upholding our cultural ideals, the World Journal Youth will no longer endure silently.  We will not be frightened of exposing our thoughts, we will not be angry at the color of our skin, we will not be embarrassed of our parents’ devotion, and we will no longer be too proud to discuss with others the legacy of our heritage.

Our publication is not aimed at exposing the plight of the second generation Chinese American at the expense of surrounding populations.  Rather, we hope to connect, to inspire, and to embrace the opportunities that we have been given to lead a dual identity.  We hope to detail our journey as the amazing individuals that we are; establishing our residency here in the United States of America.
